Activities

Arnside, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is renown for it's unrivalled choice of places to visit and things to do, catering for a wide variety of tastes and interests.  We are excellently situated to explore the Central Lake District, and offer tours to give you a taste of the area.

As outdoor enthusiasts ourselves, we are able to arrange and organise many activities, whether it is guided walks, sailing, cycling, fishing or riding or visits to castles, gardens and historic market towns such as Kirkby Lonsdale.

Walking & Guided Walking

Arnside & Silverdale Area

There is a wealth of walks of high quality in the Arnside/Silverdale area, many starting right on our doorstep. We offer guided tours, as well as information and maps for more intrepid explorers.

Here follows some samples of the walks available, but even a week spent here would not be enough to do the walking justice.

The coastal walk from Arnside to Silverdale has breathtaking vistas over Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland Fells, and follows over beaches, through woodland and along cliff tops. A lunch break at the Silverdale Hotel and return via Arnside Knott makes this a memorable walk.

The Cross the Bay walk is led by the Queens Leader, Cedric Robinson, starts at Arnside.  Details available on 07539 532 165.

Arnside Knott is a superb place for picnics and to watch the sun set over the bay. Most of the Knott is National Trust property, and there are two nature trails that go up the Knott. From the top, the breathtaking view takes in Skiddaw, Helvellyn, Kentmere Pike and Coniston Old Man in the distance across the bay.

It is said that if you ascend Fairy Steps without touching the sides, you are granted a wish. The narrow cleft is an interesting gateway to the top, which offers lovely views across the Kent Estuary, Arnside Knott and the Lakeland Fells.  Hazleslack Tower, a pele tower built in 1375 to provide safe haven from Scottish invaders, add a touch of history to this walk.

Lake District

Walking tours around the Lake District can be arranged with Kim Marsh, an experienced walking enthusiast.  Follow in the footsteps of Alfred Wainright, or visit the birthplace of Wordsworth and Coleridge.

Cycling

Bryn Teg have cycles available for hire, as well as maps of good routes with which to explore the area.

Fishing

There is ample opportunity for trout fishing in the area, and the estuary provides course fishing enthusiasts with hours of fun.

Golf

Golf at the Silverdale Golf Club can be arranged.

Riding

Riding and hacks can be arranged at the local stables.

Sailing

Bryn Teg own a Wineglass, a 15ft open dinghy, and we would be happy to arrange a spin on the water.  As the estuary is tidal, timing needs to be planned in advance.
